John I. Smith Charities, Inc. was founded and funded by the late John I. Smith of Greenville, SC. Mr. Smith was born in Greenville, graduated from Greenville Senior High School, and lived in Greenville his entire life. Having never married with no siblings or children, Mr. Smith was a very quiet man who lived modestly but gave generously to good causes. During his life, he served on the Board of Commission for the Shriner’s Hospital, was the former chairman of the Greenville Hospital System, and was president of the Greenville Kiwanis Club.
